Water Jet Assisted Liposuction

woman-570883_1280Water jet assisted liposuction, also known as body jet liposuction, is a very popular liposuction procedure. Along with other liposuction procedures, this particular technique is designed to remove pesky fat deposit found beneath the skin to produce a more contoured profile.

In addition to battling bulges, body jet water liposuction is often used to reduce the appearance of lipedema, a condition that presents itself with fluid build up in the lower regions of the body, especially the legs.

What Makes Water Jet Assisted Liposuction Different?

While it is similar in removing fat deposits, water jet assisted liposuction is a bit different. During a traditional liposuction procedure, either a tumescent liquid is injected or laser energy is applied to loosen and/or melt the fat cells, after which the fat is removed via a cannula. With body jet water liposuction, a pressurized stream of saline is used to dislodge and remove the fat cells. Rather than destroying the fat cells, this technique simply loosens the fat cells, allowing for a gentler removal processes.

The Procedure

During body jet liposuction, an injection is made of a tumescent fluid that comprises a local anesthetic, saline, and other medications. This injection solution will lessen bleeding and provides pain-killing properties.

After the solution with its anesthetic properties has take effect, a small cannula or tube is inserted into the treatment area. The saline solution is then injection, while the fat cells are simultaneously suctioned away. Any fluid that may remain after the fat is removed will also be suctioned out.

Water jet assisted liposuction is very gentle and is considered minimally invasive. Patients will not experience large amounts of bruising or swelling. Additionally, the recovery time is very quick as the water used causes less trauma to the tissues.

Benefits of Body Jet Water Liposuction

There is no need for general anesthesia with body jet water liposuction. Additionally, because fluid management is part of the procedure, the surgeon is provided a more detailed assessment of results during the procedure. This technique can also be used to harvest fat for fat transfer procedures such as butt or breast augmentation, or areas that lose volume due to age.
